Mary-Kate and Ashley on the making of the dolls

Mattel came to us with an idea to make dolls.

We took a tour of Mattel. We saw how Barbie doll was made and the interesting machine that plugs in all her hair.

We then had a photo shoot for the doll sculptors. We learned some cool stuff that day, like Mary-Kate shows more teeth when smiling.

We talked about what we wanted the dolls to look like and what we wanted them to wear.

They asked us what we were interested in, so that they could make our personalities come across in the dolls too, which was cool.

Mattel designers put together mock-up dolls.

Over the next several weeks different departments at Mattel worked on the dolls. 3D dolls were made by working on patterns, fabrics, hair styles and make-up.

Our heads were then sculpted. Our hair was rooted, our faces were painted and put on bodies and then we were dressed in our fashions!

There was a lot of work by our design team -- Dualstar Central Design Studio, that went into designing the fashions so they really looked like our clothes.

Our designer and we met with Mattel a dozen times, at Mattel's offices in El Segundo, California (right near Los Angeles International Airport) and at our company's offices in Century City (right near Beverly Hills).

We worked with Mattel on design ideas, mostly about the clothes and accessories, and about the hair.

Mattel made the changes and showed the new stuff to our designer and our hairstylist. More changes were made.

We really love the fabulous results.

Mattel is great to work with. Lots of really nice people.

They really care about making the dolls, clothes and accessories realistic and authentic. To be sure that we were happy, they even e-mailed some digital photos to us in Australia. WOW!

We love Mattel!

We're already almost done working with Dualstar Central Design Studio and Mattel on new sets of fashion dolls for late summer this year and spring next year. Wow! We're really dollin'.
