In 2002, the Mary-Kate and Ashley brand expanded its presence in Canada by launching in Walmart stores nationwide. At the time, many of their dolls were not readily available in Canada unless purchased online and shipped internationally. To address this, Mattel and Dualstar collaborated with Walmart to introduce an exclusive collection of Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls, released specifically in Canadian Walmart locations. These dolls were not available in the United States or other countries, making them the rarest Mary-Kate and Ashley dolls ever produced.
Unlike the brand's typical mass-produced dolls, which were available for extended periods, this exclusive collection was produced in limited quantities and sold for only a short time. Each doll was packaged in a single box without outfits or accessories, except for a small chip art of lip gloss, included as a cross-promotion for Walmart's beauty products.
