Movie Magic: March 2001

The Movie Magic dolls were released by Mattel in the spring of 2001 as the third set in the series. This collection introduced a refreshed design and brand-new packaging. At the time, Mary-Kate and Ashley had updated their hairstyles, and the dolls were designed to reflect these changes. Each doll came with unique accessories, an additional outfit, and a collectible poster featuring images from the promotional photoshoot. The dolls were sold separately.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • The Movie Magic dolls featured different hair lengths to reflect Mary-Kate and Ashley's hairstyles at the time-Mary-Kate's hair was shorter, while Ashley's was longer.
  • Mary-Kate's doll maintained an equally feminine appearance as Ashley's, as her tomboy phase began to fade with age. As their brand evolved, the focus shifted more toward fashion rather than acting.
  • In 2003, Barbie released a doll called Movie Star Barbie, which closely resembled Ashley's Movie Magic doll. Images of this doll and its packaging can be seen below.
  • Additionally, in 2000, Barbie introduced Nichelle from the Generation Girl line, which was later repurposed for Mary-Kate's vanity set. Images of this doll are also provided below.
